When JPEG compression works best
JPEG is usually a practical choice for photographs, email attachments and web sharing. It is lossy: very aggressive compression can create visible artifacts, especially around text and sharp edges. Keep the original and check the downloaded copy before replacing or sharing anything important.
Does this change my original JPG?
No. The browser creates a separate result for download. Your original file stays where it is on your device.
Can I set a target size such as 1 MB?
Yes. Use the target-size control for a practical file-size goal. It is an attempt rather than a guarantee because highly detailed photos may need a larger file to remain usable.
Does the JPG leave my device?
No. Image bytes are processed in this browser tab. Fyleap does not provide a file-upload API or server storage for selected images.
